Who you will be supporting

The people we support have a wide variety of interests and hobbies including playing and listening to music, football, watching TV, going out on a day trips, theatre, cinema, meeting friends and family, chatting to people, going for walks, going to church, having meal out, BBQ and parties, pottery, reflexology, and exploring new opportunities.

The people that we support would like their support worker to be caring, patient, proactive, and be able to think outside the box. A good listener who works inclusively with them in all aspects of their life. Someone who will promote choice with guidance and encouragement and supports them to achieve goals to make a difference to their life.

We support people with a variety of physical, emotional and social needs including mobility, where support with a wheelchair is required outdoor, intimate personal care and cooking.

The Role

Supporting someone with their daily life is not a 9-5 job. You will need to be able to work flexibly across a range of different shift patterns, including various day shifts, evenings, weekends and sleep-ins. We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota will be prepared well in advance – Got a request, something special going on? Your manager will certainly try to help you meet it.

You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work that we do alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for a female support worker for our full time post with a ‘can-do’ attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring and have a calm demeanour when needed.

You would be supporting people with day to day tasks such as shopping, cooking, eating and drinking, laundry, personal care, cleaning, finances, and medication administration. You would also support them to organise activities and access the community to socialise and for leisure as well as to attend health appointments.
