Job Introduction BBC Sports News is looking for two reporters to join one of the best teams of sports journalists in the country. We are looking for self-starting story getters who know how to find a story and how to deliver one. Whilst our reporters will be expected to broadcast on TV and Radio, previous on-air experience is not necessarily a prerequisite. What is essential is that both reporters can demonstrate their journalistic drive and an understanding of the importance of our digital platforms and how best to serve our audiences who come to them in huge numbers every day.
Role Responsibility Whilst we will expect both roles at times to cover the full sporting brief, we are expecting one role to focus primarily on football and the other on sports news. For the football-focused reporter, we want someone with a proven book of contacts and track record in breaking football stories. For the sports news role, we are looking for someone who can uncover the truth of what is happening behind the scenes across the sporting world and explain complex issues in clear terms for our audiences.
Are you the right candidate? A proven ability to deliver original journalism, strong editorial judgement, and a hunger to chase stories are a must for both roles. They will both require frequent and sometimes unpredictable travel and the ability to be flexible and adapt to a fast moving editorial agenda and will involve working unsociable hours. You will be expected to work closely with our existing Reporters and Correspondents, working within a team to keep BBC Sport at the forefront of Sports News Journalism. Both roles report into the Sports News Editor and Assistant Editors at MediacityUK in Salford, although we also have a London base, so there may be the possibility that one of the roles could be based with our London team.
