Finding A Job Near To London

Blog Post Body:

London can be a great city to live in – but its prohibitive property prices are making people look a little further afield for their next job, especially those workers with young families to consider.

Many commuters are happy to move a little further out of the capital and travel in to the office each day because they love the buzz of working in the metropolis. Others have jobs they can do only in the capital.

But how about living and working in a city that is near enough to London to enjoy everything it has to offer socially but without the daily grind of waiting for that early morning train.

Imagine the extra time you can devote to your family, your friends and hobbies if you decide to look for a job in one of the towns within striking distance of London.

Winchester is one city that ticks all the boxes for people wanting to live and work in a beautiful part of the country and be near to the capital too.

And the historic city close to the South Downs has even come third in the Halifax’s most recent Quality of Life Survey, beaten only by nearby Hart in Hampshire and Elmbridge in Surry.

People living and working in the area, which boasts the famous cathedral where author Jane Austen is buried and which is believed to be where the Domesday Book was written, have better paid jobs and, correspondingly, improved health and housing than much of the rest of the country.

Schools, including the famous Winchester College, are excellent. Leisure facilities and tourist attractions, including the annual Hat Fair, a celebration of street theatre, and the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium, mean that you might not even miss the bright lights of the capital.

Wintonians, as the residents of Winchester are known, are rightly proud of their history and, with employers in the region recruiting (the area has only 0.6 per cent unemployment), they can look to forward to a prosperous future too. Winchester has higher than average numbers of people working in the health, scientific research and retail sectors.

And by moving out of ‘The Smoke’, not only can you greatly improve your quality of life but also your finances – living and working an hour or so away from the capital can see you save many thousands of pounds on property with homes of an equivalent size available at vastly lower prices, according to an investigation by the Lloyds Banking Group.

Add on the savings of around £5,000 a year for a South West Trains season ticket between Winchester and London’s Waterloo and looking for a job in Winchester looks like an even more attractive proposition.
