Despite the growth of social media as a recruiting tool, job boards are still relevant in recruitment. As long as candidates are using job boards to search for new opportunities, recruiters should continue to use job boards to look for candidates.

Although there are clear benefits offered by job boards, such as the reach of a wide talent pool and an established reputation, it can be easy for jobs to get lost. How can recruiters make sure they make the most of the job boards they use?

Improve Job Visibility
Different job boards have different ways of ranking jobs. As a recruiter, posting a new job, you would aim for the advert to come up on the first page of search results within the board. Candidates search for important criteria, such as location and salary, so make sure these are clearly marked in the ad so that your jobs can be easy to find.

Use The Right Language
Have a scroll through the jobs that are already listed on the job boards you are using. You want your job ad to grab the attention of candidates, so make sure your ad stands out against all the others. You can do this by using language that will appeal to your target audience. Writing a good job title can make a big difference too. You might think that non-standard job titles will appeal to the types of candidates you are looking to find, but they will have a much smaller search volume.  Make sure that your job title and job description are SEO optimised.

Have An Active Approach
Many recruiters simple place their advert and wait until it expires to trawl through the responses. Once the job is live, it is worth keeping an eye out on the responses you’re receiving. If most of these are not suitable for the role, the advert can still be tweaked to try to reach the target audience better. Asking for feedback from candidates who have got in touch with you through the job board is another way of making sure you are using the right approach. It’s unlikely that you’ll make a hire for every advert you place on a job boards, but being patient and realistic will pay off in the long run.
