Each year we see a big rise in the number of recruitment agencies, to date the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) currently has over 6,000 agencies registered on its site. It’s no wonder then that each agency is furiously vying for the attention of new clients in what is a crowded market.
As a recruiter you’ll only want to attract the very best calibre of candidates but can you apply the same tactics to attract the best clients?
Look at how you gained your original clients and what worked? Was it a case of cold-calling or was it more of a personal approach? Did you try out a new advertising campaign? It might be time to start thinking outside the box to stand out from the crowd in order to reach these new clients. Remember you will have plenty of competition, if you can gain brand awareness before you even contact them they are more likely to remember your agency’s name and give you the time of day.
Use existing contacts – do you know anyone who has moved companies and may be looking to recruit? Use social media tools like LinkedIn to connect and network with the right people and try going offline as well; building a professional relationship offline can really be worth investing your time in as it will help potential clients put a face to your business.
Keep in touch
You may have originally cold-called a company asking if they are looking to recruit and the answer may have been no, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be recruiting in the future – sometimes it can be worth chasing old or dead leads. As well as talking to potential new clients, you should also be keeping in close contact with your existing clients to ensure they don’t use other recruitment agencies.
Know the sector your clients are working in and be relevant to them. If you can show them you know what you are talking about, understand their issues and come across as somewhat of an expert, they will be more likely to use your agency. Before talking to a potential client it is always worth doing your homework, not only into their specific sector but also into their business.
No matter how you go about winning new clients, with the rising number of recruitment agencies it is essential for you to get your agency’s voice heard.
