Recruiter tips to aid your London job search

Published: Wednesday 10th June 2015

If you live or work in London, we won’t have to tell you that you’ll be pushed to find as much talent per square mile anywhere else in the country. But how can you make sure that you can find that talent, and even better, get them to find you in their own London job search?

Work when others don’t

If you are willing to work when others aren’t doing, you’ll be able to have exclusive access to the best candidates. Most candidates who are currently in a job search but already in a role will be able to speak to you much more comfortably during their lunch hour or before and after working hours. It will also show them that you’re willing to go the extra mile.

Stay ahead of the competition in your London job search

To be able to stay ahead in the very competitive London market, recruiters need to think creatively. Particularly in the city, it is possible to headhunt talent anywhere, such as when you receive great customer service ordering your morning coffee or shopping for clothes.

Cross-sector Recruitment

Thinking creatively also means thinking outside the box, or in this case the sector. There are many candidates to be found who might not have exactly the required work experience, but who demonstrate an impressive range of transferable skills they have acquired while working in a different industry.

Don’t limit Your London job search by area

Although you might think that London houses enough talent to see out your career, it could be really beneficial to expand your London job search for new talent to the commuter towns and beyond. Many candidates in a job search could be willing to relocate or commute for the right job.

Attend networking events

Like speed-dating nights for people looking for new housemates, London now also hosts speed-dating style events for recruiters looking for suitable candidates to sign to their books. This is a good opportunity to meet potential candidates without the need to invest too much time and effort.

Develop a mobile recruiting strategy

People in London spend a lot of time on their mobile phones, waiting for buses and tubes and restaurant tables to become available. Two-thirds of job seekers search for jobs from their mobile devices and statistics indicate that companies with mobile-friendly sites have a competitive advantage over companies without them in terms of candidate attraction.
