Nothing is more romantic than a scribble of your thoughts for your special one and how much they mean to you. Why should your employees be any different? If they stayed late last night to hit a deadline or wowed a client with their work, acknowledge it with a handwritten note or an email, showing that you value their input, and they will be yours forever. Know the qualities you want in your employees, and reward them.
They say the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Doesn’t that apply to everyone? Show your employees you appreciate them with an unexpected treat. Where full fat Fridays or after-work drinks can become obligatory and expected… Who was ever disappointed with surprise doughnuts first thing on a Tuesday morning? Show them how much you adore them. As a boss, when the team or even yourself comes in for some praise, deflect praise off yourself and highlight what your amazing employees did that you can’t do. This will empower them and they will want to do it again and again. Build them up.

We can forget to tune in and catch up with the person. If every interaction is an order, telling them to do something or asking for more, how would they feel? What about “how was your weekend?”, “are the kids good?”, “how did that family trip go?” Show them you care as a person, and they will be more happy, productive and loyal as an employee.
