As a recruiter you’ll already know that some job vacancies are much harder to fill than others. Whether we’re in the midst of a recession or the economy is booming. It’s all a matter of supply and demand. What people have been training to do for the last few years and whether those are the skills needed today.
Research from Forbes Magazine has revealed the top 10 hardest jobs to fill. Although some will come as no surprise to you, others may raise an eyebrow.
Hardest job vacancies to fill
Nurses – We’ve all read the headlines about health trusts around the country recruiting nurses from overseas. Although more nurses are being trained in the UK, the vacancies are still not being filled and agency workers are filling the gaps. It emerged this week that the country needs more GPs too. More experienced family doctors are opting for early retirement.
Engineers – Industry trends reveal that there are not enough engineering graduates coming out of our universities to replace those who are retiring.
Teachers – Increased workloads and rising stress levels in the classroom are seeing more qualified teachers leave the profession. Headteachers are looking to supply teachers to cover more and more classes in some areas.
Skilled trades – The rise in apprenticeships is going some way to addressing the shortages in skilled trades such as electricians or plumbers but the industries are still in need of experienced tradespeople. The same reasons apply to technicians, people in the construction industry, mechanics and wagon drivers.
In more office-based roles, sales reps and IT/data experts are in short supply due to them being vastly competitive sectors.
