Have you ever wondered about the origins of Zoek? It’s an unusual sounding name here in the UK. Which is only natural, given that it originates from somewhere else in Europe. Back in 2015, Zoek CEO Matthew W. Sanders was making the final preparations to launch a new job board in the UK. Matthew is of Dutch descent and wanted to incorporate his roots into his new business.
By 2016, Zoek was launched, operating from Knutsford, Cheshire. ‘Zoek’ comes from the Dutch word for ‘search’, which perfectly describes our purpose as a job board. Allowing job seekers to browse thousands of online job adverts, as well as giving hirers the opportunity to post their jobs on a variety of different models and integrate with multi-posters such as Broadbean, Logic Melon, Idibu, and Recruitive just to name a few.
As a digital recruitment and job search service, Zoek is available to download as an app on both iOS and Android devices.
We’ve heard it all when it comes how to pronounce ‘Zoek’. Zoe-k, Zoik, Zo-ek, Zeek… But the correct pronunciation is in fact ‘Zoo-k’. Hopefully that information comes in handy when you spread the word to your friends and family about finding your next job on Zoek.
Zoek has built itself on being different to other job boards in both our approach to marketing and the technology behind how we connect candidates and hirers. You may have seen us use the phrase – intelligent job matching – and this is because we use multi-layered, self-learning algorithms to match candidates to more relevant jobs. More simply put, we use a form of A.I. Technology to match details in a candidates saved searches, keywords in their CV and things like experience and location to create job matches that are highly relevant. This benefits our hirers too, as the majority of job applicants will likely be suitable for the role.
The major turning point in the company’s history perhaps came about in 2018. Following an organisational restructuring process, Zoek saw a 640% increase in job content, attracting over 3.5m visitors. The following year, a revamp of the website, app and brand gave Zoek much more appeal in the recruitment sector. This was followed up with a variety of marketing campaigns that increased our national exposure.
Zoek’s growth has led to us being labelled as the fastest-growing job board in the UK. However, in July 2020, Zoek launched the first of many international locations, and saw the birth of Zoek India. With further conquests still on the cards for 2020 and beyond, Zoek is fast becoming a global job board. Being less than five years old, Zoek has seen the number of employees over that period double and double again. More recruitment is still underway as we increase our presence in India and move on to our next project in the United States.
And that’s the origins of Zoek! Try out our intelligent job matching technology for yourself and start your job search or post a job today!
