With a mission to "advance knowledge and transform lives through education and research", Plymouth University is among the emerging global elite of modern higher education institutions. Ranked in the top 300 universities in the world, Plymouth is distinguished by its 'off-the-curve' approach, combining world-class research and teaching with a commitment to widening participation and social inclusion. Promoting sustainability and economic innovation in all it does, the University acts as both catalyst and anchor for its community.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established research group leading on national research of international importance. We seek ambitious researchers to work together within the existing collaboration to deliver these two complementary programmes of research. This is an incredible opportunity to be part of important research and a great team that will directly shape regulatory practice in the UK. The international community is also watching patiently for the outcomes of this research in order to inform their own decisions about how and what they might do to regulate doctors and other healthcare professionals better, all in order to strengthen patient safety and enhance patient care.
CAMERA (The Collaboration for the Advancement of Medical Education Research & Assessment) within the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry (PU PSMD) is proud to be able to advertise 5 new posts.
Two national complementary programmes of research, funded by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Department of Health (Policy Research Programme) have been awarded to explore the impacts of medical revalidation over the next 2-3 years. Full details can be found here. In CAMERA, we are seeking a range of outstanding candidates from early career to more established academics, with project management experience, wishing to work in a fascinating area of social, educational and policy research. The posts will provide the opportunity to develop the successful candidates to the next stage of their careers, by working on high-profile, UK healthcare policy shaping research.
We have opportunities for two research fellows (PhD and post-doctoral experience essential) from any qualitative research background (any social science such as sociology, psychology, or education) to help collect, analyse, write up and project manage, on a day-to-day basis, the two main streams of research. Both programmes use mixed methods but predominately qualitative methods such as interviews, focus groups, discursive and audio analysis within the work at Plymouth. We are also seeking two full-time or one full time and two part-time research assistants (PhD desirable) again from any qualitative research background to primarily collect, analysis and write up interview, textual and audio data.
CAMERA is a leading centre for educational research within healthcare and has developed an international reputation for healthcare professional regulation and assessment research. We are a diverse and dynamic group of social scientists (including sociology, psychology, geography and history backgrounds), psychometricians and clinical academics. We focus on assessment of and for learning across the continuum of healthcare education. The majority of the group are co-located on the main campus within the medical school.
We wish to encourage prospective candidates to apply for both the research fellow and assistant posts if they meet all the essential criteria. We plan to recruit and assess candidates through a combined process.
