About the job
Due to increased workload and in preparation for a new factory move our client in Taunton is seeking an individual to join their Site Services team as an Engineering Maintenance Technician, supporting the maintenance team in providing a safe and reliable operation of the production plant, equipment and facility infrastructure.
Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, CNC Milling machines, Electro Discharge Machine (EDM) tools, Vacuum Coating plants, Lapping Machines, pumps, controls and other facilities infrastructure equipment etc.
Follow engineering diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturers instructions and engineering specifications.
Work with the Maintenance Team to help plan, coordinate and/or implement TPMTotal Productive Maintenance work.
Assist or work with appointed contract suppliers or helpers to complete maintenance work that has been contracted out to other suppliers.
Provide skilled handson servicing, maintenance and repair functions for machines and equipment.
Assist in the completion of the maintenance schedules for different department machines and equipment so that it is done on time.
Participate in the preparation for Health and Safety action planning meetings, near miss and accident reviews.
Be able to control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques that enable them to do their own Autonomous Maintenance. Monitor their compliance.
Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory levels.
Works effectively as a team with other Maintenance colleagues, engineers, and operators.
Key skills and attributes:
Works in a Health and Safety conscious manner (understands the importance of risk assessment, safe work procedures, COSHH etc.)
Has an understanding of the requirements of PUWER, CE marking, Machinery Standards and other relevant standards (in a practical sense).
Good understanding of mechanical fabrication, electrical installation, machine assembly and simple electronics.
Equipment maintenance, technical ability and understanding of manufacturing equipment. Has worked with Lathes, Mills, Grinders, Lapping Equipment.
Ability to handle power tools, electrical, plumbing and mechanical devices involved in maintaining manufacturing & production functions.
Has refurbished machinery to written standards in their career.
Attention to detail with a high degree of manual dexterity and the ability to concentrate and focus on the job at hand in spite of many things needing to be done. Able to prioritize daily work schedule and the numerous maintenance activities that are included in the maintenance plans for several departments.
Good practical problem solving skills; observant, logical, intuitive. Able to identify symptoms of possible mechanical/electrical failure and able to successfully explore and uncover causes.
IT ability to handle basic computer skills: Type, Outlook/emails; Word and basic Excel skills. Able to enter data and record necessary information on computer and read computer print outs and graphs.
Cooperative and able to communicate efficiently to ensure understanding by nontechnical colleagues.
Preferable current forklift license.
Good allrounder, electrical and mechanical experience.
Education and Experience:
Experienced maintenance engineer.
Recognised apprenticeship or vocational maintenance qualification.
This role is working on an ongoing temporary contract paying between £12.00 £18.00 per hour depending on experience. You must be available to work alternating shifts 6am 2pm and 2pm 10pm and occasional nights.
Hours may vary depending on shift requirements.
