Research Fellow in Mathematical Modelling
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is an internationally renowned centre for research and postgraduate education in public health and tropical medicine. LSHTM is part of a consortium of academic and international partners involved in developing the Lives Saved Tool (LiST), an evidence-based computer tool to estimate the impact of different interventions on child mortality. LiST is used by programme managers and ministry of health personnel around the world to inform their planning and decision-making, to help prioritize investments and evaluate existing programs.
One of the key interventions within LiST is vaccination. Nutrition also plays an important role. LSHTM and its partners have received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to further develop the vaccination and nutrition components of LiST, including incorporating transmission dynamics and programmatic issues around vaccine delivery. As part of this award, LSHTM is seeking to recruit a full-time Research Fellow in Mathematical Modelling to develop mathematical models of vaccine and nutrition impacts to inform LiST. The person may also contribute to vaccine-related modelling projects for other international funders, potentially including the World Health Organization and the GAVI Alliance. The person will also work closely with LiST partners in Johns Hopkins University.
Applicants should have a higher degree in a quantitative field, such as mathematical modelling, statistics, health economics or epidemiology. They should ideally have relevant experience of working as a mathematical modeller, preferably in an epidemiological context.
The appointment is based in London and immediately available and is currently funded for one year with the possibility of extension subject to funding being secured. The appointment will be made on LSHTM's Research Fellow scale (£37,106-£42,139) depending on qualifications and experience.
