Shift Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer (mechanical bias)

Contract (3 month rolling)

Preston, England

Our chosen business partner is a leading manufacture of high quality energy products and are looking to recruit an engineer to work within their maintenance department.

Main Tasks

  • The successful candidates will be a role model for safety.
  • Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the technology in their area of responsibility.
  • Works towards a zerobreakdown and zerostopmentality and reducing the maintenance costs including working capital reduction for spare parts.
  • Takes ownership for the overall site and working area; monitors key maintenance KPIs such as breakdowns and has a strong servicedepartment mind set towards the operations/ other departments.
  • Works to current approved standards (safety, quality, CL, CILsetc) and ensures the availability of standard technical documentation.
  • Works securely with the expert maintenance tools (SAPPM, SOPs).
  • Has a RuntoStandard and BasicCondition mentality.
  • Performs high quality root cause analysis for technical and process problems.
  • To deal with faults/breakdowns as quickly as possible whilst maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Carry out condition monitoring activities, resolve where possible, report any faults or potential faults for later attention.
  • Address the root cause of any failure, take the appropriate action to resolve and feedback learnings/observations to enable processes to be improved thus preventing repeat failures.
  • Ensuring the housekeeping of the work area is maintained to the highest standard.
  • Carry out any reasonable and lawful instruction from senior management.
  • Undergo such training as may be required by the Company and adapt to alterations in working methods, systems and procedures as may be dictated by technological changes or reorganisation within the Company.
  • To cover, in addition to the above, other areas of responsibility as required (eg: in the event of the absence of colleagues or in the event that extra help is required at that particular time).

Key Competencies

  • Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship preferably with a City & Guilds or equivalent NVQ qualification.
  • Proven experience in maintaining complex automated manufacturing systems and equipment.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills
  • Able to plan and work to tight timelines while managing several tasks.
  • Experience in basic electrical control principles.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems and components.
  • Turning and milling
  • Basic welding
  • Strong communication skills.

Ideally you will also have

  • HNC level qualification in a relevant subject.

  • Excellent trouble shooting skill, able to plan and work to tight timelines while managing several tasks.

  • Experience in panel wiring.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic components.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Desirable would be experience of PLC, DCS & QCS systems.
  • High Voltage experience.
  • Knowledge of boiler & burner systems.
