Development Manager (Major Gifts - Medical and Health) (Maternity Cover)

In partnership with the Peninsula Medical Foundation (PMF), this role will lead a programme of face-to-face fundraising and donor management in order to secure sustainable philanthropic income from major gifts to support the Plymouth University Peninsula Medical and Dental Schools.

You will work as part of the major gift team within the Development Office at Plymouth University, and will be responsible for attracting philanthropic and sponsorship monies for selected projects in support of the Plymouth University Peninsula Medical and Dental Schools. Initially there will be a particular focus on generating support for scholarships and bursaries and research funding in the areas of cancer, immunology and neuroscience to reflect School's research strategic priorities.
You will be responsible for identifying potential supporters, including major philanthropists (individuals, Trusts) corporates, and alumni of Plymouth University. You will be expected to develop excellent relationships with existing and potential donors primarily utilising face to face fundraising techniques.
You will be expected to work closely with our academic leaders, consultants and those leading clinical trials, key researchers, charitable partners and senior volunteers; and be expected to passionately translate complex scientific information into a compelling case for support for the lay person in both verbal and written form.
It is expected that you will have a strong track record of major gift fundraising or relationship building at a senior level as demonstrated by at least three years' experience in such a role, along with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, combined with evidence of strategic planning in a fundraising or business development environment.
The post is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave for approximately 12 months. It will be joint funded by the Peninsula Medical Foundation.
