Advanced Oncotherapy is developing a unique, fully integrated, proton therapy system. The LIGHT System is expected to be the first commercially available linear proton accelerator for medical treatment of cancer patients.
Our next generation of particle therapy systems is designed to pinpoint tumours more precisely and with greater conformity, thereby potentially offering patients less damage to surrounding healthy tissues and higher disease-free survival rates.
Advanced Oncotherapy is also committed to developing a proton therapy system which is compact and user friendly. This means that proton therapy will no longer be reserved for a minority of patients but will be available to many more.
We need to recruit a skilled and experienced technician with a specialism in vacuum to work on the assembly and commissioning of our LIGHT system at our new test site in STFC Daresbury. There may be shift work involved in this role.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate strengths in most of these areas.
Working with R&D, engineering, 3rd party suppliers and customers as required for the safe installation and maintenance of equipment
Installation of vacuum equipment and leak testing by helium leak detection
Test vacuum components prior to installation
Perform residual gas analysis
Writing reports of tests and accelerator interventions
Assemble component parts, using hand tools, power tools, fixtures
Perform installation of vacuum components. Complete regular maintenance and perform upgrades to the vacuum system
Handle and move heavy material, working with specialist riggers when appropriate
Install hardware in housings or assemblies, using soldering equipment and hand tools
Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly
Test the performance of electro-mechanical assemblies
Inspect received material in order to ensure conformance to orders and compile the required documentation
Maintain up-to-date material electronic inventory
Follow company procedures for problem reporting
Other duties as required
Training on specialist tools will be available.
Qualifications and experience
Mechanic/Electrical Technical diploma or equivalent qualification
Solid experience in using mechanical tools and test equipment for mechanical and vacuum installation
Experience in installation of vacuum systems, handling and assembling of UHV components
Demonstrated experience in the interpretation of pump down data and residual gas analysis
Proven experience in helium leak detection
Commissioning, maintenance & operation of vacuum systems
Basic expertise with electrical and electronic installation for industrial applications
Experience of verifying dimensions of parts, using precision measuring instruments, to ensure that specifications are met
Good level of spoken and written English with the ability to understand and edit technical texts
Ability to read and understand technical drawings, datasheets, and written work instructions
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Following additional skills and experience are highly advantageous:
Previous experience in analysis of design and technical drawing
Previous experience with vacuum equipment, ideally using Pfeiffer equipment
Previous experience working on the installation and commissioning of accelerators
Spoken French an advantage
