At MADE.COM we believe that everyone should have access to great design. So, weve taken a unique approach to making and selling furniture - no middlemen, no agents or importers and no high street stores. Instead we work directly with designers and manufacturers so we can offer high-end furniture at attractive prices. Its not an easy task it takes a creative and dedicated team to make it happen where everyone has an important part to play. We combine our individual passions and skills to create innovative work thats as exciting and unconventional as the business itself. Its a place where all ideas are listened to, where brainstorming means job titles get left at the door and where a self-starter can really make their mark. Tech @ MADE
Since our inception, Made.coms tech and design have won us industry awards, from Initiative of the Year from the Retail Week Tech Awards to the Most Disruptive Business 2017 from The Sunday Times Fast Track. We consistently make the top 30 retailers by productivity and we've won many design awards for our product lines.
As a company we seek a competitive edge; as technologists and craftsmen we're no different. We've embraced event-driven architectures, DDD, and CQRS in order to achieve our technical goals. We're trail-blazers in the Python community, and we contribute back by writing and talking about our findings, and open-sourcing our tools.
Were a globally ambitious company, and we intend to continue expanding, but its our future tech that excites our engineering team the most. The release of Apple ARkit opens up great new possibilities for our mobile app, and we are looking for ways to join up the online experience with the customer experience in our showrooms. We are looking forward to a time when a customer can instantly get information on the product they are looking at in a showroom on their phone; when they can check if a sofa will fit in their living room from an augmented reality app; or when they can visit a store virtually from a headset. What youll be doing
We have ongoing new features as well as improvements across our critical back-office systems (logistics, stock management, supply chain, warehouse management and customer service tracking to name a few), and so were expanding our engineering function of three distinct teams into four. We are are looking to recruit a new QA Engineer to join the new team and our QA crew..
This is a hands-on role where much of your time day-to-day will be spent working very closely with our development teams across these systems. Depending on what functionality you are working on you will be sitting with one of the developers in a pair programming environment, continually asking questions and having input into the functionality they are working on.
You will be involved in Three Amigos sessions with a Product Owner and a Developer, where you will contribute with your analytical skills to question and understand new functionality, its purpose, how it will work in the wider system and to identify any missing requirements. Once there is consensus around features, they will then be assigned to the workflow.
Our development team uses a TDD approach to develop new functionality. As part of this process you will be reviewing all tests written during development, and pairing to write Acceptance tests whenever possible. You will be reading and executing Python code, and occasionally fixing issues in the code base.
At MADE.COM were extremely passionate about Agile. You will participate in daily stand-ups, with the opportunity to occasionally lead these. You will also be expected to contribute to retrospectives after every sprint
What you need
A strong analytical mind set and take a holistic view to testing understanding an entire system, how all parts interact and fit together and how data flows throughout.
Good communication skills are essential. Asking questions will be second nature to you, always getting to the heart of what it is youre trying/needing to achieve.
Examples and proven experience where you have gathered all relevant information before diving into testing a feature.
Working knowledge of exploratory testing from a previous role, as manual testing is part of the responsibilities of this role.
As you will be an integral part of the development team, you will have experience working closely with engineers following an Agile approach to software development, preferably Scrum or Kanban, and be used to contributing to ceremonies like planning and retrospectives.
The ability to demonstrate collaborative working, benefits of this approach and have some experience participating in a Three Amigos session or equivalent. We are looking for someone who gathers information to set the foundations for the right testing approach ahead
This is a role with huge scope for learning and career enhancement. You will have a chance to work with an incredibly skilled team who are leading the way in Cloud, event-driven architecture and Domain Driven Design, on bleeding-edge technologies for a complex, enterprise e-commerce application.
