SALARY DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE

JOB PURPOSE

  • To provide expert knowledge and skills in developing children to ensure compliance with the Children's Act and to follow the guidelines set down by Ofsted and the National Standards/EYFS to enable all children to be developed in a safe and secure environment to reach their full potential.

  • To work under the direction of the Nursery Manager and deputise as and when required.

  • To promote the aims and objectives of Working Mums Daycare & Preschool.

WORK PATTERNS
Monday - Friday (excluding bank holidays)

Working hours are established in accordance with the operational requirements of the Company. Whilst the normal working week for non-managerial employees is 40 hours per week, management staff are expected to work such hours and days as are necessary to fulfill the requirements of the job and meet the needs of the Company's business ranging from 07.00 to 19.00, exclusive of an hour unpaid lunch break.

DIMENSIONS

Direct responsibility for Ofsted registered number of children within the nursery & the corresponding ratio of staff
Training responsibility for Nursery staff
Liaise with Parent/Carers
Team Work
Direct Responsibility for Service Delivery

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To promote the overall strategy and direction of the Working Mums Daycare & Preschool group of settings

  • To assist the Nursery Manager in setting and delivering clear objectives and performance standards of the nursery, working within agreed company policies and procedures

  • To maximise and deliver on financial targets directly related to nursery performance

  • To develop, lead and motivate a team, ensuring performance is maximised and potential managed

  • Deliver a programme of childcare from birth to 5 years old which meets legislative standards and considers children from differing cultures, religious backgrounds and those who may have additional needs

  • Supervise the organisation of activities to develop all aspects of a child's individual development in a stimulating environment

  • To have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to follow the child protection procedures adopted by the Company

  • Maintain and develop appropriate systems to file children's developmental records

  • Provide strong support for the team ensuring safe working practices and staff ratios are effectively deployed to adequately meet the needs of the children

  • Coach and develop the team to ensure positive and proactive attitudes and behaviours are demonstrated throughout the nursery

  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team/individuals in a timely manner

  • Devise and implement developmental plans for the team in conjunction with the competency framework

  • To assist with the supervision and development of all staff ensuring any matters are dealt with promptly

  • Assist with managing the nursery within agreed budget

  • To ensure confidentiality of information received

  • To assist the Manager in the supervision of training students in placement and volunteers within the Nursery

  • To assist the Manager with the efficient upkeep of maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishing and fittings ensuring the nursery environment is safe, hygienic, tidy and well presented at all times

  • Ensure all risks assessments are carried out for all outings, new equipment, chemical products current COSHH

  • Ensure annual testing is carried out on fire extinguishers, portable appliance testing etc and regular checks on smoke detectors, door security systems.

  • To deputise for the Manager in the event of absence

  • To attend monthly staff meetings and training sessions outside working hours

OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by the business in line with the development of the Working Mums Daycare & Preschool group.

  • To take responsibility for personal and team compliance and align with Company Health and Safety Policies, ensuring safe working practices are maintained which minimise the risk to self, work colleagues, parents and children.

FRAMEWORK AND BOUNDARIES

  • Work within Working Mums Daycare & Preschool policies, procedures and new initiative set by line managers

  • The ability to work on projects designed around the business and its development of the Working Mums Daycare & Preschool

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Level 3 Early Years and Childcare Qualification

  • 2 years' post-qualifying experience in a day care setting

  • Detailed knowledge & experience of Early Years Framework

  • Knowledge of the Children's Act 2006- Safeguarding Children

  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage

  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels (parents, children, colleagues and senior management)

  • Previous experience of leading a team/individuals

  • To be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team

  • Health & Safety Certificate

  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate

  • Food Hygiene Certificate

  • Child Protection/ Safeguarding Children and Prevent Duty Training

  • Good organisational skills

Desirable

  • Early Years Foundation Degree

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Previous experience of developing a team

  • Proficient use of Word and Powerpoint applications.

  • A good working knowledge of computers

  • Be able to deal with large groups of children

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • GCSE Maths and English

  • Knowledge of current training initiatives

  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities

From your leave entitlement, up to 3 days leave must be taken during low operational periods from 27 th December (if these are working days) to 31 st December.

Working hours are established in accordance with the operational requirements of the Company. Whilst the normal working week for non-managerial employees is 40 hours per week, management staff are expected to work such hours and days as are necessary to fulfill the requirements of the job and meet the needs of the Company's business ranging from 07.00 to 19.00, exclusive of an hour unpaid lunch break.

To be based at the contracted setting, with the flexibility (subject to operational needs) to cover in special circumstances at other nursery settings within the group.
