The University of West London is a leading modern university specialising in the education and development of exceptional creative, business and service professionals.

This key role is instrumental in devising, implementing and continually improving the University's information security strategy, ensuring that the organisation is adequately protected from information security threats, complies with relevant legislation, and that both staff and students understand and fulfil their obligations in this area.

Reporting to the Director of IT, a member of the IT management team and working alongside the University's governance and legal teams, you will have overall responsibility for developing and enforcing enterprise information security policies, procedures and standards. You will act as a subject matter expert and the University's lead on information security, providing guidance and building relationships across a wide stakeholder community. In addition you will be responsible for maintaining effective disaster recovery plans and working with key business leaders to benchmark UWL information security with other education institutions in the UK.

You will need:


A good honours degree or equivalent qualification and ideally be a Certified Information Security Professional (CISP);

Experience of developing information security strategy, policies and procedures in an enterprise environment;

Proven experience of managing Information Security from both a strategic and technical level ensuring procedures and policies are followed across a complex and diverse organisation;

Demonstrable experience of information security and business continuity best practice and a good understanding of standards, including ISO27001/BS25999;

Understanding of the relevant legislation impacting the delivery of IT services, including Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act and RIPA;

A good knowledge of issues surrounding systems and network security vulnerabilities, patching and protection;

Excellent written and spoken communication skills including the ability to produce clear and accurate reports;

Strong team-building and inter-personal skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team of IT professionals.
