Reference: A3989Description: University of Plymouth Enterprise Limited (UoPEL) is very excited to be working on the UAEOcean project funded by the government of the United Arab Emirates. The goal of the project is to develop an Ocean Monitoring and Forecasting centre in the United Arab Emirates based on the latest technology in ocean modelling. To ensure the project is a success, UoPEL is seeking to appoint a senior software developer for developing mainly Windows applications, but also Web applications. Other aspects of the project include the development, validation and delivery of a set of numerical oceanographic and wave models, post-processing tools, computer middleware, end-user applications and extensive training of UAE staff. The post is initially for 3 years with the potential to extend.
If you are keen to participate in a project with the responsibility for the development and delivery of comprehensive, customer focused, integrated, cost effective and progressive end-user applications for the new Ocean Forecasting Centre in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), then this is the perfect role for you. You will also be expected to contribute to the on-the-job training of customer staff as well the wider University agenda. The role involves travel both in the UK and overseas as well as working visits to the Ocean Forecasting Centre in the United Arab Emirates lasting 3 to 6 months each.
You will work within a small software development team and develop and maintain collaborations with external bodies - the customer and the project partners. You will proactively contribute to the training of customer staff to engender the effective sharing of knowledge, develop technical documentation for the software, and carry out acceptance tests for the software products. You will be required to provide software support and maintenance, remotely and in person.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 31 October 2017 with potential of extension.
