About the job
Reference: A3937Description: One of the top 10 UK Modern Universities (60th in the world)* and winner of the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in 2012, Plymouth University has a vision to be the Enterprise University in line with our mission of 'advancing knowledge and transforming lives through education and research'.
The University understands that that the provision and usage of information services is a pivotal contributor to this mission.
The Technology and Information Services (TIS) directorate is the principal vehicle for delivery of information services and is a significant investment area. TIS has an ambitious vision of becoming a leader in its field within the HE sector, and is keen for people who are passionate, innovative and driven to deliver the best to be part of the team.
Plymouth University has a requirement to refresh its wired and wireless networks in order to meet increased demand. The network project covers both the wired and wireless elements across the Plymouth University estate. The objective is to provision a modern performant, resilient, secure, scalable and robust network, which will be fit for purpose in the longer term, whilst also becoming an enabler for wider University objectives.
Managing a large campus network can be challenging with diversified users; varied uses of the network; and expectancy of availability, result in high dependency on the network for both mission critical and personal use e.g. Streaming video. The last major refresh of the University's network was undertaken in 2007 (PlymNet5), when the demand on the network was considerably less. The current network provision is now suffering from a number of limitations, which both impact the ability to provide an effective service, but also cope with future capability and capacity demands over the long term.
The Business case to provision a major upgrade refresh for the network has been approved to proceed and will undertake to refresh the network for both the wired and wireless components.
You will need to be familiar with full lifecycle project management and be able to demonstrate delivery within a Prince 2/ ITIL environment. A formal procurement has begun and candidates will need to be able to evidence experience in running successful procurements using Government and other frameworks.
