About the job
Closing date: 15 September 2014This is an exciting opportunity to join the advisory team of the Communication and Interaction Support Service in Oxfordshire, a well established but forward looking specialist team, part of Oxfordshire’s Special Educational Needs Support Services. This inclusion focused service supports pupils with Communication and Interaction difficulties including Autism and Speech Language and Communication Needs in mainstream, early years and special school settings across the county.
Communication & Interaction Support Workers work closely with Specialist Advisory Teachers, supporting young people in mainstream schools to engage with learning and enjoy the academic and social opportunities that school affords.
You will work under the supervision of a Specialist Advisory Teacher and will have a small caseload of children across a range of school settings and will work closely with classroom staff to facilitate their inclusion. Your role will include setting up new programmes, demonstrating successful approaches, advising on how to adapt the environment and curriculum to meet their particular needs and providing ‘on the job training’ to staff to build their confidence in supporting these students.
You will have significant experience supporting young people with ASC and associated communication needs in school settings as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA or Learning Support Assistant. You will need an excellent knowledge of successful strategies, the ability to work with a wide range of people in different settings and highly developed communication skills.
The posts will cover schools in a designated area of Oxfordshire, which may be varied according to the changing needs of the service over time.
There are two posts, one based in Abingdon, one in Kidlington. If you have a preference please indicate on your application.
