A Secondary School in Leeds, with a reputation for supporting and building its staff, are actively looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to work with to support in a small classroom of pupils. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the children are kept on task, learning to their full capability and have a point of contact for any issues or concerns. You will be working alongside the class teacher and other teaching assistants, behaviour support assistants, and school support staff. The children have a range of needs, requiring the applicant to have patience and the ability to think on your feet to provide them with the support they need. This is a longterm position, with a view to extending for the right person.

Your role will include:
Establishing constructive relationships with students
Following the positive behaviour plans for each individual child
Support class teacher and other support staff to maintain a positive working environment
Develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of each pupil
Looking after childrens physical, emotional and social welfare
Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and deescalating the situation to best of your ability
To maintain a record and provide regular feedback about pupils to the teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assist the school in communicating with parent and carers using the appropriate approach
To support all learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day
Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
Experience working in SEND setting
Experience working or volunteering with children
The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
Able to work with learners with various learning difficulties
Flexibility in approach to educating and supporting children
Team teach certified
