Reference: A3889Description: An excellent opportunity has arisen for a CCAB qualified professional to join the Senior Management team in the Finance & Sustainability Directorate.
This role reports to and deputises for the Director of Finance and is responsible for the Financial Accounting, Systems, and Finance Operations teams as well as risk, business continuity and insurance.
You will be responsible for and should therefore have considerable experience of managing a large team of up to 60 people and will have 4 direct reports. You will therefore need to possess and be able to demonstrate strong leadership and an ability to manage and motivate staff at all levels in order to deliver results. Excellent communication and team working skills are essential as you will be working with a wide variety of staff. You will need to possess the skills to be able to manage a variety of challenging projects in a professional manner and to be able to make timely decisions in order to meet the requirements of the business.
You will be an excellent technical accountant with significant financial accounting and reporting knowledge and experience. This should include an understanding of audit practice. FRS 102 implementation experience would be advantageous. Significant knowledge of taxation issues affecting universities is essential. Treasury Management experience is essential as is an appreciation of credit control and the management of debtors. Strong IT skills and experience of large complex financial software and reporting systems is essential given that the University will be upgrading its finance system over the next 6-9 months.
You will be responsible for discharging company secretarial responsibilities for the University subsidiary companies, of which there are 4, and ensuring that appropriate governance arrangements and frameworks are in place. Experience in this area is therefore desirable.
You will be expected to lead on key relationships with the University's bankers, Card acquirer and associated organisations, HM Revenue and Customs and internal and external auditors. An understanding of banking, payment acceptance and the associated compliance requirements is highly desirable.
You will be required to write a variety of reports and strategy documents up to board level and expected to chair various meetings. The role involves being able to manage a number of projects at any one time and excellent project management skills are therefore essential to be successful within this role.
An understanding of risk management, business continuity and insurance is desirable as is knowledge of the Higher Education sector. Significant experience of working in a large organisation is considered to be essential to this role.
This is a full-time position, on a fixed term basis for approximately 9-12 months to cover a period of maternity leave
