This is your chance to join one of the leading utility companies as a Software Engineer at Ratcliffe power station, the requirement is for a confident experienced team player who has a strong developer focused skill set gained from developing, implementing and supporting business systems.
About the role:
As a Software engineer you will support and maintain a current legacy database applications developed in MS Access working with stakeholders to identify and prioritise applications to be redeveloped. Analyse existing solutions and identify opportunities to reengineer legacy applications so that they more flexibly serve current and future operational processes. Present requirements and proposed solution to stakeholders to get their buyin. Take ownership of projects and see them through to a successful conclusion.
Implement solutions. This will involve planning, training, data conversion, documentation, management of software releases etc. Create reports to run against current and legacy SQL databases to meet the information needs of the business.
The hourly rate for this role is £28.25.
Initially this will be a 3 month role, depending on workload down the line this may look to be extended.
26 days annual leave year plus 8 bank holidays.
Computer science / information systems background preferably with a good relevant degree.
Experienced .Net developer (C#/VB.Net, WinForms/WCF, Entity Framework, .Net Framework, Web Development) with a minimum of 5 years commercial experience including all aspects of the SDLC and the relevant documentation (requirements analysis, design specifications, test plans, project plans etc.)
Strong SQL Server knowledge (database design skills, SQL basics, Stored Procedures, query optimisation, XML etc.)
Demonstrable MS Access application development experience including VBA.
Administration and finance systems knowledge. Any experience with ID card access controls systems would be a bonus.
Knowledge of Windows based corporate IT network support.
A keen developer who is uptodate with modern development project practices (TDD, Agile etc.) and who can produce well structured, readable, maintainable and efficient code.
A good team player but also able to work independently.
Good communication and social skills and a flexible attitude to the project work undertaken.
Comfortable in an industrial setting working as part of a highly technical engineering team.
