Responsible for:

FF&E Designers and Assistant Designers.

Overview:

Senior designer/management role overseeing the FF&E team(s) on projects, working hand in hand with the CEO, Directors, Associates, other Interior Designers, FF&E Designers and wider design team to deliver projects in a timely manner according to the agreed programme.
The activities described below represent what is required from the role of the Head of FF&E and should not be seen as a prescriptive list of activities. These activities may, from time to time, be reviewed and changed in line with changing business requirements. This will be done in consultation with the role holders. Company policies and procedures must be adhered to in all activities.
As a senior person within the company your responsibilities are wide ranging and influential to the success of the company and how we are perceived in the industry, both internally and externally, and as such should not be taken lightly.

Aim of the Role:

The aim of this role is to assume ownership, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of work assigned and to assist the project lead to deliver project(s) to the highest level of professional competency and industry standards. A requirement will be to ensure that our designs are technically competent, practical, fit for purpose and compliant with any relevant statutory regulations whilst according with the Client objectives and budgetary constraints. As a qualified professional the Company will expect you to conduct yourself as such in all aspects of the duties and responsibilities assigned to you both internally and externally.

Leadership:

There are likely to be a number of projects/activities at any one time of various sizes and at various stages and project teams will consist of professionals with varying degrees of skill and experience. You will provide direction and support to other members of the team as required. Working with the Studio Director, Design Director and/or Project Leader, you will take joint responsibility, with other senior designers, for ensuring FF&E packages are delivered within the agreed timeline and only working on additional work after the Commercial Planning Manager has agreed Change Orders signed off by the client.
Whilst you will be involved and/or consulted in the general management and decisionmaking processes of the Studio (relevant to your area of expertise), your primary function will include the following:

Essential Skills and Competencies:

Leading, mentoring and nurturing a project team
FF&E Management/oversight of multiple design projects from concept to delivery
Experience and greater understanding across the luxury hotel hospitality sector.
Excellent design knowledge and ability
Ability to develop creative design concepts with technical and commercial awareness
Proficient in FF&E Scheduling, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office and Spexx Design Documentation System
Knowledge of Solas /IMO regulations and codes of practice relevant to all duties and responsibilities undertaken (on the job trainingdo not need this for new starter)
Knowledge of Fire regulations for FF&E relating to commercial properties, especially hotels and cruise ships (on the job training for cruise ship projects)
Ability to work with demanding clients and timeframes

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of commercial suppliers of FF&E, fabrics, materials and finishes
Ability to work in a team and take instruction

Main Tasks:

Contributing and overseeing the production of conceptual design ideas, undertaking of research and development of schemes and contributing in brainstorming sessions.
Development of design ideas by way of freehand sketches
Overseeing and production of presentations, to include moodboards (physical and digital) and other presentation material as necessary.
Sourcing and purchasing of presentation materials, and other products or samples as necessary, in the preparation of sample boards, client information issue or other contractual submissions.
Overseeing and selection of materials, furniture, light fittings, carpets, fixtures and fittings and other finishes or materials.
Assisting, developing or designing of bespoke carpets, furniture or light fittings.
Producing schedules, specifications, sample boards, control books and any other relevant documentation necessary to fully illustrate and identify schemes.
Review and approve control books and specifications produced by FF&E Designers and Assistant Designers prior to issue.
Meeting with suppliers and manufacturers representatives, keeping abreast with current legislation, Solas /IMO regulations and codes of practice relevant to all duties and responsibilities undertaken.
Meeting with client representatives, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and consultants of the company or our clients, etc. in our offices or abroad as necessary.
Utilizing software applications provided by the company in the execution of daytoday duties. On the job training will be provided.
Joint and collective responsibility for maintaining the project files relevant to FF&E concept design, scheduling, specifications and other documentation, as per the agreed company standard.
Travelling abroad and in the UK as necessary or required for meetings, research, site visits and inspections and other company business.
Joint and collective responsibility for maintaining and keeping the product and sample library up to date with relevant materials, finishes and product information.
Adopt and encourage an atmosphere of Continued Personal Development (CPD) for yourself and studio design staff.
Advise Studio and Design Directors on relevant CPD presentations, courses or seminars relevant for design staff within the hospitality and marine environment.
