We are looking for an experienced medical statistician with a significant track record of epidemiological research to be based at the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The exciting new post would suit someone either at Senior Lecturer level currently, or with significant experience working at lecturer level and looking to take the next step in their research career.
The Africa Centre is developing an ambitious epidemiological research programme, a component of which is accessing extensive health record data from its demographic surveillance setting. The post holder will lead in analysis of such data and participate in defining priority research questions. The work will focus on HIV and TB. We are also keen to expand our work on non-communicable diseases. The post holder will contribute to the development and application of new statistical and epidemiological methods relevant for Africa Centre studies. They will also be expected to contribute to ongoing capacity development of Africa Centre collaborators in statistics and epidemiology, and to contribute to the School's postgraduate teaching programme both at MSc and PhD level.
Candidates should have extensive experience in the analysis of large clinical and epidemiological datasets together with a strong research profile demonstrated through substantial peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences. They must be willing to spend considerable periods of time at the Africa Centre and shorter periods in London with the MRC Tropical Epidemiology Group.
The appointment is available immediately. Salary will be on the Senior Lecturer scale (£52,371-£60,111) depending on experience. The post is based at the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The appointment will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions, including membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme, an annual leave allowance of 30 days pro rata plus 6 fixed 'Director's Days'.
