Job Title : Speech and Language Therapist
Permanent - Part Time
�31,000 pro rata
26.25 hrs p/wk
The Speech and Language Therapist has responsibility for assessing and reporting upon patient�s speech, language, and general communication ability and to devise, implement and monitor care and treatment plans appropriate to individual residents� needs.
Our service is based on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and provides a range of assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and specialist residential services to over 90 adults with a learning disability in a range of different environments suited to their individual needs including medium, low secure and rehabilitation.
In addition to a learning disability, many of our patients have complex needs including forensic histories, mental illness, ASC and Personality Disorders. Most patients are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Major role components:
� To assess and report upon patient�s speech, language and general communication ability.
� Form differential diagnoses within the remit of professional specialty following advice from outside Supervisor and based on all assessment results.
� To devise, communicate, deliver and monitor appropriate programmes and treatment for the patient�s specific needs.
� Participate in the setting up and implementation of appropriate care and treatment programmes to meet the patient�s needs.
� Uphold the fundamentals of person-centred planning and involve the patient at every stage of intervention where appropriate. This includes explaining the intervention process in an accessible manner, gaining consent if possible, listen to the patient and supporting them to take an active role in intervention planning and goal-setting.
� To show initiative in the organising and delivery of both group and individual treatment programmes.
� To incorporate outcomes measures to evaluate effectiveness of treatment and enable service auditing.
� Promote a positive communicative environment by offering training, advice and support for staff in relation to the use of effective interaction strategies.
� Actively engages in reflective practice and professional development throughout duration on employment. CPD will take different forms: 1) personal reflection and record-keeping 2) regular supervision with outside Supervisor and Manager 3) all areas of clinical governance such as training and reviewing recent advances in evidence to inform practice.
� Attend and engage with regular supervision sessions with Clinical Supervisor for guidance on clinical practice. This is essential to meet the requirements set by professional bodies for professionally isolated Speech and Language Therapists. It is also important to attend and engage with regular supervision sessions with Manager for guidance on general issues of practice and conduct. This is essential for team working and guiding development in line with the company�s long-term vision.
� To maintain registration with The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
