Overview
As the Head of Parks and Leisure Service,  you will be leading the Council’s service and will make an immediate impact in providing innovative and new ways of engaging the local  community and demonstrating the best of community pride.  You will ensure that activities within parks and leisure facilities are impactful and support the council's  priorities of providing inclusive services that are accessible to all residents of the borough.

Responsibilities

Develop strategies for the most efficient and effective delivery of services
Lead on the procurement of contracts within services
Ensure services contribute to reducing social isolation and improving community cohesion.
Ensure services contribute to improving the mental and  physical health of residents.
That services contribute to working towards reducing the climate change and ecological emergency

Main Duties

Accountable for  managing service budgets .
Manage the workforce effectively to deliver excellent service.
Manage the cemeteries service.
Ensure effective operations of all contracts through liaison with contractors and managers and resolving contract disputes.
Development of service capital programmes, through producing annual capital programme plans and other development schemes.
Lead the development of service improvement plans to improve the borough's standing across the London and the country.
Develop and deliver a borough physical activity and leisure strategy. And develop and deliver a parks strategy.
Explore and lead on the implementation of potential business opportunities in Parks and Open Spaces
Ensure the safe management of the services and assets and maintain robust health and safety plans for the management of trees within parks , cemeteries and open spaces, and the safe management of head stones and memorials within the borough cemeteries. .
Manage stakeholder relations; this includes meeting with parks friends’ groups and other user groups. Assisting residents with setting up new Friends groups. Write correspondence and reports as required and represent the Council in consultations with the public. This will include attendance at evening meetings.
Undertake any other relevant duties as directed consistent with your grade and areas of responsibility.
 
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Leisure , Sport and Culture, with significant contact with the Mayor of the Borough. The post holder will be required to produce reports and attend SLT, corporate boards as required.
