Health and Safety Advisor/ Fire Risk Assessor

The HSQEC&G Team manage and maintain Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Compliance across the group by putting staff members and customers at the heart of everything we do.
Head Office: Beacon House, Ipswich (including hybrid-working)
Location of Role: Suffolk and East Anglia
Salary: £25,000 - £29,950 (depending on experience)
Main Duties: On site auditing and assessing
Ideal Candidate:
This position will be ideal for someone who has recently completed their NEBOSH National General Certificate and is starting out on their Health & Safety journey. The role would also benefit those who are looking to leave some of the more senior Health & Safety duties behind, and get back to being out on site.
Main Activities: The role will mainly consist of completing Fire Risk Assessments and Health & Safety Audits on-site across Suffolk educational premises
Additional Activities: As the role evolves the successful candidate will be tasked with completing additional Health & Safety related assessments and audits. These will include; Food Safety Audits, Cleaning Audits, Grounds Audits, and general Premises Compliancy Audits. As the group looks to expand into future service avenues, the variety of assessments and audits we will offer will cater for these needs
The role will also include the opportunity to carry out training sessions. The training sessions currently delivered relate to the assessments and audits which are carried out by the team. For example; Premises Management Training, Fire Warden Training, Food Safety Training, and other smaller bespoke sessions
As with all Health & Safety roles consultancy is key. Alongside assessing, auditing, and training, consulting with sites and offering advice and guidance will be a major part of your day-to-day activities. We currently have a strong relationship with the sites who use our services, so a high standard of client liaison is important
Additionally, there will be a need to carry out incident investigations within the role. This will mean travelling to site to interview individuals and document the findings. On occasion this will be at short notice, especially if the initial communication suggests the incident is serious.

  • Developing and updating Health & Safety policies and systems
  • Auditing Group procedures and systems against various standards
  • Monitoring new and current legislative requirements
  • Growth of service provision for new and current clients
  • Nationally supporting sites within the Group
  • Departmental, Senior Management, and Directorial liaison
  • Project Management and consultancy to support improvements
  • Promoting Health & Safety culture through campaigns and initiatives
  • Quality Assurance management to maintain all ISO standards
  • Environmental commitment to reduce the Groups carbon footprint

    Qualifications: - NEBOSH National General Certificate Compulsory
  • Technical Member of IOSH Desirable
  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate Desirable
  • Education and Training Level 3 Desirable

  • Internal Auditor Training Desirable
    Skills and Experience:
    Due to the role mainly consisting of assessing and auditing, a good level of experience in these areas will be key. This includes the ability to write clear and concise reports which our clients can understand and put to effect use. Also of great importance is the need for presentation skills with a high attention to detail
    A large part of the role will see the need for good time management
    skills. The successful candidate must be self-motivated as the role will
    require a dynamic approach
    Due to the nature of the role and the standards set within the HSQEC&G Team, a high standard of client liaison is a main priority
    Effective communication of other services within the Group is integral. The role will consist of supporting these services through additional assessments and audits
