With 100 students on the roll, aged 7 19 years of age, the school meets the educational needs of young people with a range of learning difficulties including moderate to severe and complex learning needs, speech, language and communication difficulties.
Following the Diocese Religious Education curriculum, you will be working across the school teaching RE and PSHE to a range of abilities and levels. Your classes would include a higher ability post 16 class, 12 moderate level KS3 and 4 classes and a KS3 class supporting students with Autism. Most of the classes you are working with will have mainly nonverbal, male students and require a firm behaviour management approach.
The school is seeking experienced SEN Teachers to join the team and contribute to the semiformal and PScale targeted curriculum. Experience with nonverbal students, sensory teaching and Attention Autism training is highly desired in this position. All students at this school are mobile and the school does not cater to Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.
The school places a big focus on individualised and personal learning approaches for each student. Teachers work with the multidisciplinary team and collaborate to ensure each child is supported holistically. Selfesteem and selfconfidence building are key development areas for all pupils and central to this is the cultivation of communication and interaction skills. Teachers engage a wide variety of teaching approaches in line with students learning styles. Most classes will have an emphasis on learning by doing and lots of opportunities for repetition. Through highly structured learning activities, differentiation and individualised support, all students are expected to meet their individual learning objectives. Teaching groups are organised by a range of criteria including ability, communication and behavioural needs.
The Teacher would: Be a qualified Teacher with QTS Primary trained teachers are encouraged to apply Have experience working in an SEN School environment and a strong understanding of complex needs Have knowledge or experience of the Diocese RE curriculum (not essential) Create and teach lessons to a class of SEN pupils Differentiate lessons according to individual students abilities and needs Support communication by using technology and nonverbal techniques *Work closely with Teaching Assistants and the MultiDisciplinary Team
