The Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry work in partnership with the University and NHS to provide contemporary, patient-centred and integrated undergraduate medical and dental degree programmes. The Medical School is seeking an individual with a background in simulation, (medical) education, e-learning, social or health sciences research, and who is highly motivated towards a successful career in simulation/medical education research, to take up the post of Research Fellow within CAMERA which is a multidisciplinary research group (education, social sciences, TEL and clinical research backgrounds) in the Peninsula Medical School. We are seeking outstanding candidates, with project management experience, wishing to work in the fascinating areas of simulation and medical simulation/education research. The posts will provide the opportunity to develop the successful candidates to the next stage of their careers, by working on high-profile, international simulation based medical education research.

You will work primarily on a project funded by the Tropical Health and Education Trust that aims to implement and evaluate how innovative educational technology using distributed simulation, can be used to improve healthcare workers knowledge, confidence and competence in relation to appropriate Infection Prevention and Control in West African PHU setting. A secondary aim is to equip Masanga Hospital in Sierra Leone with the facilities required to effectively isolate suspected VHF cases prior to transfer to national treatment centres in the event of continued Ebola cases during the current outbreak or future VHF outbreaks. The role will to help design studies, collect and analyse data, and write up reports and journal papers for the project by using mixed methods such as (but not limited to) questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, discursive and audio analysis. The role will also manage the project activities on a day-to-day basis under the guidance of the project leads. The role also mandates international travel (for at least 2-3 months) to Sierra Leone for study implementation and data collection purpose. While at Plymouth you will be based on the main campus at Plymouth University.

This is a full time position working 37 hours per week and is fixed-term for 12 months.
