Designer / Cad Technician / Trainee Cad Technician
Hessay, York, England
Permanent (Full time)
We are a York based designer and manufacturer of mezzanine floors and associated ancilliaries. A small yet expanding operation, we are building a stable and solid business with steady, continuous growth. We know we can only continue to do this by finding, training, supporting, developing and ultimately retaining the right people.
We are looking for a structural steel modeller/detailer with some experience in 3D packages such as Tekla Structures, Advance Steel or Revit.
The primary tasks include creation of 3D models, production of fabrication details, bill of materials for purchasing, approval and construction GAs. You will be using Tekla Structures, Draftsight 2D and various bespoke design tools.
Secondary aspects include assisting the designer both in-house and on site (surveys), liaising with clients and suppliers alike, as well as our in-house fabrication team.
This role will be expansive for the right candidate, with the potential to develop beyond the responsibilities and skillset described.
The ideal candidate would have some workshop, site or general 'hands on' experience, and some experience using a 3D modelling system developing steelwork. You will be happy using 2D and 3D CAD systems, and be comfortable liaising with both our clients and our fabricators and suppliers, with a positive demeanour, attention to detail and good communication skills.
You should be comfortable with all the usual programs such as office, word and excel etc. You need to be ‘tech’ minded, as a central aspect of our plan for growth involves streamlining our processes through the use of bespoke software and technology. An interest in maths and coding, and a knack for exploiting excel will be a big asset.
We understand that the candidate description for this role is a wish list, as such that exact individual may not actually exist. We are open to applications from those who don’t tick every box, but can convince us that they have the capacity, and importantly, the will and drive to develop into the technician we need. We can support and train in every aspect as required for the right person.
We don't expect to see any specific qualifications, however anything that demonstrates relevant knowledge, abilities and interests (technically minded, structural awareness, good maths etc.) will help.
The successful applicant will receive ongoing support and training (both in-house and external) regardless of ability, however you should still be self motivated and resourceful to be able to thrive on this.
Sensible working hours, non-corporate working environment, good holidays & pension, continued development, good salary, bright prospects for the future
