The Engineering Manager will act as the focal point between capex projects and the engineering function to ensure business strategy is underpinned by engineering expertise and is delivered appropriately to the project management teams.

Responsible for the definition, implementation and review of best practice processes and performance; managing stakeholders to agree objectives and schedules.

Duties include

  • Ownership of all Engineering input into Capex projects, consistent with agreed business case / scope
  • Be the Engineering team representative within the CAPEX organisation
  • Represent the Engineering function in project governance meetings, providing leadership on governance, risk and change management
  • Key input to project phases in support of the project management team on a matrix based multidiscipline engineering team
  • Work with project managers and stakeholders (respectively PMs) to manage the allocation of engineering team members to Capex projects under a matrix organisation
  • Align team goals and individual deliverables with the PMs of multiple projects ensuring deliverability
  • Reviews and formally signs off on formal documentation relating to JMBM Projects on behalf of Engineering team
  • Ensure the engineers are suitably qualified and experienced to satisfy their roles in projects
  • Engage in planning activities and RACI definition for individual projects
  • Coordinate and direct engineering, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and integration of technical/ project management activities
  • Ensure the engineering team work to best practice processes and procedures; in line with strategic models
  • Manage & control interfaces with consultants and contractors to safely deliver on time and to budget
  • Identification of risks and issues which may affect schedule, budget or quality.
  • Supervise and instruct the work of multidiscipline teams, external consultants and designers as required by the project
  • Act as an escalation point for issues raised by team members and represent the team during issue resolution
  • Delegate activities appropriately within the organisation
  • Ensure health, safety and environmental issues are efficiently identified with a continuous focus on sustainability
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Support the Engineering and Technical Services Manager in prioritising engineering projects
  • Interface daily with site operations and technical services to provide engineering assistance and/or resources for troubleshooting plant problems and evaluating processoriented change requests, in connection and with approval of the related project manager/director
  • Protect intellectual property as appropriate in all activities

Candidates will require the following skills

Minimum of 10 years experience as an Engineering Management role

Expert knowledge of engineering disciplines

Experience of scaleup

Chartered Engineer status

Experience in major/ complex capital projects for major chemical, pharmaceutical or oil & gas industries
