Lead First Aid Officer, School based in Rugby, Salary £19,312 - £19,698 per annum FTE, term time only
The School is situated two miles from Rugby town centre on the edge of open countryside. We are one of only a few bilateral schools in the country, offering places to students of all abilities with a grammar stream for the most able. The school currently is oversubscribed and has about 1750 students on roll, 130 teachers and an active support staff. There are 425 students in the Sixth Form who are undertaking a variety of one and two year courses.

We are now looking for a Lead First Aid Officer to support with running first aid provision and supporting the school to ensure that medical emergencies and illness are attended to with care, compassion and efficiency.
This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, term-time (38 weeks).
Lead First Aid Officer Main Duties:
Being responsible for the medical welfare of students and staff, including provision of First Aid services and maintenance of accident and Incident Records.
Taking charge of the First Aid room, its facilities and equipment and manage the work of the First Aid Officer.
Being the primary contact for emergency call-outs.
Replenishing stocks of First Aid consumables, specifically ordering and controlling the usage of medical supplies within the whole school.
Checking medication held, ., EpiPen's for date use.
Being part of the team called upon to offer advice on and administering First Aid.
Contacting parent as and when necessary, with regards to students' welfare and/or sudden illness.
Caring for students who report to the First Aid room with sickness or injury until they are either sufficiently recovered to return to lessons or are delivered into the care of a parent/carer.
Providing administration for student medical records and ensuring these are all kept up to date.
Making decisions relating to the referral of students and staff to a doctor or hospital, calling an ambulance in cases of serious illness or injury.
Accompanying sick or injured students to hospital when no parent/carer can be contacted for this purpose, in collaboration with the Office Manager to ensure cover for First Aid is arranged.
Liaising with new intake parents re any special medical requirements.
Undertaking any specialised training commensurate with students' special medical requirements.
Liaising with the School Nurse Team, organising, arranging and monitoring all vaccination programmes carried out on the school premises
Being aware of and acting of school safeguarding policies and practices, liaising with appropriate authorities internally and externally on matters of student welfare and safeguarding.
Any other duties reasonably required by the line manager/Principal which are commensurate with the post.
Lead First Aid Officer Necessary Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Advanced First Aid qualification is essential, or the willingness to undertake and complete the appropriate training in advance of starting the role.
Nursing qualification is desirable but not essential.
Previous experience working ICT.
Previous experience working within a School setting.
Good working knowledge of computer software packages, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Good administrative and time management skills.
Understanding and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and issues appropriately.
Being able to work not just as a team but allowing good working relationships with students and all staff.
