The Ayr Clinic is made up of a well-established 36 bedded low secure hospital for men and women, with two annexed specialised transitional step down units, one comprising of 10 beds for men and women and the other an 8 bed service for women. The Ayr Clinic is designed to offer care and treatment to patients with a mental illness and/or personality disorder. The Ayr Clinic is situated in the coastal town of Ayr in West Central Scotland.
To be responsible for the provision of an Occupational Therapy service to a designated specified patient group.
To work closely with the clinical teams to provide an Occupational Therapy Assessment and Treatment Service to patients within a secure mental health estate.
To contribute to the maintenance of standards of excellence within Occupational Therapy and throughout the service through Clinical Governance.
To ensure an effective and efficient Occupational Therapy referral system and service provision is maintained with adequate management of existing rources.
To assist in the provision of a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to patients on a designated units, using assessment tools and techniques where appropriate.
To identify relevant care planning issues, contributing to risk management and devising treatment plans for own caseload, as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
To implement evidence based interventions according to individual patient's needs and ensuring the patient's involvement in all aspects of the Occupational Therapy process.
To organise and run therapeutic individual and or group intervention as part of the rehabilitation programme and where appropriate co-run groups with other disciplines.
To provide a written protocol to each therapeutic individual and or group offered for inclusion in the service directory and update on a regular basis.
To maintain evaluation records of patient's progress in Occupational Therapy and provide formal assessment reports for care planning reviews.
To assist in formally evaluating the service through the most appropriate techniques such as service reviews, patient satisfaction surveys, outcome measures and reflective practice and research.
To attend and actively participate in care plan reviews for patients engaged in Occupational Therapy.
To liaise closely with other members of the clinical team and other professionals involved in the implementation of the individual patient's care plan, including purchasers and future placement providers.
To assist in the induction of newly appointed staff as per department standards.
To manage and support on a day to day basis all Occupational Therapy staff appointed to the designated units, including any students on fieldwork education placements.
To provide regular supervision sessions according to department standards for appointed staff and ensure a system of annual appraisal is maintained.
To comply with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation and policies ensuring the provision and maintenance of a safe environment for all members of the Hospital Community.
To assist in the reviewing of Departmental policies and procedures ensuring that all staff are informed of and comply with the same, particularly those relating to fire, security and confidentiality.
To be responsible in monitoring and co-ordinating the ordering and safe keeping of materials, petty cash and equipment in line with budget restraints as directed by the Hospital Director and Finance Officer.
To maintain up to date statistical information as required by the local and corporate audit and compliance requirements.
To regularly review the service offered to the patient group and contribute to the local governance framework which assists the planning for the future development of the Occupational Therapy Service.
To contribute to the development of quality assurance initiatives within the Occupational Therapy Department.
To participate in relevant planning meetings and activities to assist the Lead Practitioner OT in the smooth running of the department and co-ordinating future developments within the service.
To attend and contribute to other Multi Disciplinary Management meetings as required.
To be involved in the recruitment of Occupational Therapy staff.
To plan and run regular in-service training sessions for staff as agreed through the Hospital local training strategies.
To attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions in order to reflect on personal performance.
To attend and contribute to the annual appraisal.
To keep abreast of current developments within the field of mental health/learning disabilities, forensic work and Occupational Therapy.
To attend courses identified via the appraisal process.
To be involved in relevant research initiatives where research proposals have been agreed by hospital senior managers.
To attend essential/updating training as required by hospital standards.
Work in such a manner as to ensure a positive and co-operative relationship with all colleagues, patients and visitors.
Ensure accurate communication with staff, patients and outside agencies.
Have access to a wide range of confidential information which must not be divulged to any unauthorised person in any circumstances.
Abide by the legal requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999, which includes infection prevention and control, particularly in respect to assuming responsibility not only for your own health and safety but for that of all others including patients, colleagues, visitors/members of the public and to co-operate with Priory Group to create a safe, healthy and pleasant working environment.
The post holder will share ownership of Priory Quality Objectives through education and effective communications. The post holder will maintain and support all quality initiatives and objectives that are set throughout the organisation.
Be required to conform to Priory Group policies and procedures.
The post holder will at all times treat patients with dignity and respect.
The post holder will report to the Hospital Director any matters concerning personnel i.e. annual leave, sickness.
