  • The informal 'European Spirituality in Nursing and Midwifery Research Network' has been awarded funding under the Erasmus+ Key Action 2 Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education. The project titled 'Enhancing Nurses Competence in Providing Spiritual Care through Innovative Education and Compassionate Care (EPICC) commenced in January 2017 for 33 months.

  • The aim of the EPICC project is to support a group of pre-registration nurses and midwives from across Europe (n25) involved in the teaching of spirituality and spiritual care to undertake a review of their current educational practice and to develop a Gold Standard Matrix and Toolkit to aid the integration of these concepts within their own programmes and curricula.

  • The project is being led by the EPICC Strategic Partners, an international group of nurse educators/researchers who include Professor Wilfred McSherry (Staffordshire University, England), Dr Linda Ross (University of South Wales, Wales), Prof Tove Giske (VID Specialized University, Bergen, Norway), Prof Rene van Leeuwen (Christian University of Applied Sciences Viaa, Zwolle, Netherlands), Dr Tormod Kleiven (Diakonova University College, Norway), Professor Donia Baldacchino and Dr Josephine Attard (University of Malta).

  • The project is now actively recruiting a Project Manager to support the implementation and achievement of the project activities and outputs.
