Location/Division Specific Information

Within our EMEA Life Science Solutions Group (LSG) Business Unit we are looking for an experienced and motivated Field Service Engineer to support our customers with qPCR, Next Generation Sequencing, Flow Cytometry and other exciting product lines.

The position is Home Office based, and he / she will collaborate with the Service Team Leader and the UK service team. The work area will be mainly in Scotland, although travel throughout the UK will be vital at times, and there will be a requirement for travel to Germany for training classes. For this role you will ideally be located on the Dundee to Glasgow corridor.

How you will make an impact:

As Field Service representative in this position, you will be responsible for delivering service excellence over and above our customer expectations.

What you will do:

  • Represents our company in a positive, professional manner in all dealing with Thermo Fisher Scientific customers, both external and internal.

  • Own and deliver service commitments and execute on install and commissioning, calibrations, qualifications, preventative maintenances, training or repairs.

  • Providing responsive telephone and on-site support and work to ensure that the customer is successful in the use of their instrumentation.

  • Will produce timely and accurate reports of your own activities: . engineer reports, planned maintenance reports, installation reports, expense reports etc.

  • Maintain high level of customer allegiance by building strong customer relationships and promoting an excellent customer experience.

  • Partner with our commercial colleagues to deliver customer deals that can be implemented profitably and meet/exceed customer expectations

  • Responsible for optimisation and accuracy of the provided tools and consignment stock.

  • Help on continuous improvement through our Practical Process Improvement Business System

How you will get here:


Professional background in Electronics, Engineering, Biochemistry, Life Sciences or related subjects.


  • Some past meaningful experience within a service function

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work optimally with customers and colleagues in sometimes difficult and stressful situations

  • Good verbal and written communications skills related to technical approaches, work performed, test results, and findings.

  • Customer friendliness and a professional attitude

  • Must have strong problem solving skills.

  • PC literacy including MS Office and Outlook.
