Research Assistant Department Of War Studies
The Department of War Studies at King's College London is looking for a temporary research assistant (RA) for a period of 12 weeks starting on 12 September 2016, with a weekly workload of 20 working hours. The RA will work in a research project examining the Twitter networks of authoritarian regimes around the world: among autocratic rulers, who retweets and follows whom on Twitter?
The RA will be responsible for the data collection. The RA will develop a data collection strategy with the principal investigator, collect the data (i.e. identify the relevant Twitter accounts and download the relevant Twitter feeds), and prepare the data for analysis.
- SkillsProspective candidates must have advanced skills in automated data mining / web scraping techniques, using Python or an equivalent software. These skills are essential, and we unfortunately cannot consider candidates who do not have these skills. Candidates must also be able to work independently without supervision and have good technical problem solving skills. Preferably the candidate has good knowledge of statistical software package R, and some knowledge of the relevant field of research, i.e. the recent empirical research on authoritarian regimes, democratisation studies, comparative politics, or political science in general.
