Reference: A4566Description: The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (SoGEES) invites applications for the position of Professor/Associate Professor (Reader) in Environmental Chemistry. The successful applicant for this post would be a member of the Environmental Science subject team within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE). The Faculty is a large, dynamic and successful Faculty, employing 280 academic staff across four academic schools. SoGEES is the largest School in the Faculty with 1,700 undergraduate students, 70 masters students and over 40 PhD students. Environmental Science contributes to the University's world-leading research reputation embodied by two University-wide Institutes: the Sustainable Earth Institute and the Marine Institute. Core research themes around measuring, modelling and managing global environmental change build on the School's outstanding analytical capabilities and reputation in biogeochemistry. REF2014 placed us 10th in the UK in terms of "research power" for UoA7 (Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences), with 44 staff submitted contributing over GBP 12million of research income. The School is now looking to appoint a talented academic to join the Environmental Science Team. This post is intended to contribute to the leadership of research in the Environmental Science subject area. An ability to identify and lead research into original areas of enquiry, and outputs suitable for submission to REF2020 in UoA7 (Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences) is essential. You will also be expected to integrate your research specialisms into the Environmental Science taught degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, leading and developing the University's strategy for research informed teaching. Plymouth achieved excellence in teaching for its Environmental Sciences course (HEFCE TQA) and was awarded national subject centre status in the fields of experiential learning and environmental sustainability (2005-2010). You will have a doctorate degree in a relevant field, and substantial experience at post-doctoral or equivalent level. You will have a track record of attracting significant research funding and being able to deliver internationally esteemed research output, evidenced through publication and other indicators. You will be appointed to a job description within a range aligned with Plymouth's Academic Career Pathways, according to their knowledge, experience and skills in relation to the key accountabilities.
