Our Sports News, Radio Sport and Interactive teams help make sure that every day, throughout the year our audiences are served with all the stories surrounding every sport as well as providing world class coverage of the events themselves.
The Radio Sport department provides all the sports event and programme content for the BBC’s network radio outlets. Radio 5 Live, BBC radio’s 24-hour news and sport station, is the primary network for taking this content but Radio Sport also supplies 5 Live’s sister station 5 Live Sports Extra and Test Match Special for Radio 4 LW.

Role Responsibility The Assistant Editor works with the Editor, Radio Sport, Assistant Editors and programme teams to oversee the day-to-day output of 5 Live Sport.
The successful candidate will lead a range of production teams and broadcasters, editing and producing output from the studio and Outside Broadcasts to the highest standards and agreed budgets and schedules.
Provide editorial direction and creative drive to all 5 Live sport programmes.
Provide strong editorial leadership with the ability to offer guidance and advice.
Establish and oversee a defined culture and values programme for 5 Live Sport and provide regular personal support to team members when required.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a balanced and objective editorial judgement based on a thorough understanding of the target audience, editorial guidelines, programme and departmental objectives.
We are looking for a candidate with demonstrable managerial skills: selects teams effectively, establishes goals and utilises their capabilities. Possesses the ability to motivate staff to produce innovative and imaginative journalism.
An understanding and awareness of digital journalism and audience behaviour in this area.
