Job Description – Architectural Assistant Part 2

My Client is looking for a Architectural Assistant Part 2 in their busy office in Baldock Hertfordsire.

Job Purpose

Architectural Services

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The main functions of the post holder are:

Produce detailed workings, drawings and specifications
Discuss the ideas, objectives, requirements and budget of a project and in some cases help to select a site
Consult with other professionals about design
Asses the needs of the building and its users and advise the client on the practicality of their project
Prepare and present feasibility reports and design proposals to the client
Asses the impact on the local environment
Use IT in design and in assisting with their project management, specifically using computer-aided design software.
Assist Principle Architect or Project Manager to keep projects within financial budgets and to deadlines
Assist in specification of the nature and quality of materials required
Assist Management to prepare tender applications and presentations
Assist in negotiating with contractors and other professionals
Prepare applications for planning and building control departments
Assist Management in preparing tender documents for contracts
Assist Project Manager and help to coordinate the work of contractors
Where asked to by Principle Architect or Project Manager, carry out site visits to check on progress and ensure that the project is running on time and to budget
Resolve problems and issues that arise during construction
Ensure that the environmental impact of the project is managed
Person Specification

Qualifications and Education

Educated to Part 1 or Part 2 RIBA or equivalent (Essential)
Knowledge and Experience

An approved first degree in architecture, white typically takes three to four years (Essential)
Stage 1 practical experience – usually 12 months of supervised and recorded professional experience. This is commonly taken in architects’ practices, buy may be in any sector of the building industry, including construction and design, as long as the work is related to architecture and supervised by a construction professional (Desirable, essential for Part 2s)
Part 2 – two years of further study for a diploma, further degree or Masters degree in architecture (Essential)
Stage 2 practical experience – a minimum of 12 further months of supervised and recorded professional experience, to make up the 24 months required to sit in the Part 3 examination (Desirable)
Part 3 – an examination in professional practice and management, which students may take on complexion of the above. This involves a written and oral examination as well as assessment of the 24 months of practical experience. Once this is completed, students can register as an architect with the ARB and apply to become a chartered member of the RIBA (Desirable)
