Plans and coordinates single or multiple medium to large or high complexity capital projects that often require inter-disciplinary engineering teams of and cross functional business partners. Manages all aspects of scope development, cost estimates and schedule by collaborating both within the engineering organisation as well as with cross functional business partners in a matrix organisation. This position requires management of both external and internal resources and influencing cross functional stakeholders as well as effectively resolving issues and managing conflict. The candidate must have a good working knowledge of technology employed in manufacturing including robotics, Xray machines, SCADA ideally from the food or FMCG industry and would also have an understanding of how the application of the technologies impacts their stakeholders. Exposure to structured gate processes to take a product from concept to production is essential. In addition, you will also have responsibility for the facilities engineering department

We are seeking a self-starter with heaps of energy to lead and execute this busy programme of work.

The role

This position interacts frequently with leadership positions within and outside the Supply Chain function

External interaction will include, however, is not limited to, equipment vendors, construction contractors, engineering services contractors, etc

This person is recognised as a Technical Leader and an expert in Project Management and has demonstrated significant accomplishments and contributions to meet business initiatives.

This position will manage a range of small, medium to large projects.

This position manages multiple project teams of engineering professionals (may be a combination of internal and consulting engineers).

Execute assigned projects by utilising workflows with multiple departments at the factory.

Execute project initiatives to ensure that all projects are completed to meet business needs from start to completion.

Responsible to ensure that all project planning, deliverables, reporting, and spending forecasts are managed accurately and that all projects are delivered within cost, schedule and performance success criteria.

Lead technical assessments, capability studies and capital execution for new product launches and modifications in cooperation with key partners including but not limited to Operations, Maintenance, Research and Development and Procurement.

Manage every aspect of the capital development process to include consultants, general contractors, vendors, specialty contractors, budgets, internal departments and developers.

Lead cross functional project teams at plant level.

Lead or co-lead new equipment and/or process development.

Complete bid review, drawing review and provide on-site construction management.

Facilitate the project management process to define project scope, goals and deliverables.

Plan and schedule project timelines.

Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions.

Ensure equipment, materials and project results are of anticipated quality standards.

Identify areas for improvement and recommend real time solutions.

Participate in budget management to include development and forecasting.

The person:

Degree educated or equivalent in an engineering discipline

Demonstrable project engineering experience gained in a large scale manufacturing business ideally beverages or food or fmcg Manufacturing with 5+ years of capital Project Management experience, leading projects from cradle to grave.

Formal project management training or certifications are positives,

Previous experience of project management also of facilities is desirable

Experience of new technology in the FMCG industry

The candidate must possess excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills along with problem solving and conflict management skills

Lean or Six Sigma Certification is preferred. PMP or equivalent certification is a plus.

Strong understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies

Cost Reduction Project Management preferred

Foundational project management skills and solid experience in business process management, tool design and optimization.

Demonstrated process orientation and ability to communicate effectively within project team (core and extended team).

Ability to balance leading edge technology solutions with capital availability, and need for high savings.

Ability to manage ambiguity and interpret large amounts of information and draw conclusions that support the project scope.

Ability to think outside of the box and understand the broad category needs.

Must possess a customer focus approach.

Ability to effectively drive for results that meet project timelines and deliverables.

Proven ability to negotiate effectively to produce positive results.

Experience managing external contractors
