Site Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager


Full Time

Salary: £40,000 £45,000 depending on experience

A very reputable retailer with an office in Northampton are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join their ever expanding team. You will be responsible for all maintenance of the company site to ensure the compliance with legislation relating to site safety and management.

Key Duties:

Site Maintenance / Repair

  • Undertake emergency and planned maintenance and repairs within capability; respond effectively and maintain a log of such works
  • Liaise with the Company H&S Manager in the preparation of maintenance and capital expenditure project / work plans; liaise with contractors and be their main point of contact to maintain costeffective schedules.
  • Manage all Facilities contractors on site, ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements are met, monitor their performance and inspect completed work, issue permit to works
  • Undertake routine inspections of the site, daily maintenance checks including heating and lighting systems throughout the premises
  • Maintain and update PPM
  • Be aware of the location of essential services including water isolation valves, fire points, and drainage systems, gas and power supplies. Maintain a detailed floor plan showing the location of these

Health & Safety

  • Ensure the company complies with all current legislation in relation to site safety and facilities management; including the maintenance of appropriate records
  • Prepare H&S strategies and carry out risk assessments, advising how risks could be reduced
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
  • Keep records of incidents and accidents and produce management reports
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employers industry
  • Managing and organising the safe disposal of hazardous substances, advising on a range of specialist areas e.g. fire regulations, noise, safeguarding machinery etc.
  • Head H&S meetings
  • Carry out H&S training and inductions

Cost Effectiveness and Welfare

  • Manage, negotiate and monitor the use of catering/vending facilities and services to all areas of the site and produce reports as agreed advising senior management in order to ensure the most economical use of these facilities
  • Main point of contact for cleaning contractors including owners and operatives
  • Ensure high standards are maintained, operatives efficiently employed and value for money achieved
  • Manage refuse and recycling procedures and ensure relevant staff are aware
  • Monitor supplies of cleaning materials, personal hygiene products, drinking water and sundry items; working with cleaning contractors to ensure effective replenishment

The candidate:

  • Significant experience in a similar role
  • Diploma in H&S (or working towards)
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualified (or equivalent)
  • Focused on process improvement with strong organisational skills
  • Fully competent in Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer and client management skills
  • Ability to manage a varied and complex workload
  • Technical knowledge of building services
