  • A Good graded KS4 Pupil Referral Unit in Wakefield is currently seeking a Construction Tutor to start in September on a long term, full time contract (with potential to become permanent). The position will involve providing vocational courses and work experiences to enhance the young peoples chances of post 16 education, apprenticeships and employment. The successful applicant will have experience tutoring or supporting students within education and be able to evidence successful outcomes for their students. Experience working with vulnerable, challenging students is essential as the role will require the tutor to engage students and inspire them to reach their true capabilities. Key characteristics include patience, passion for teaching, and flexibility. This role offers the applicant an opportunity to make a real difference to young people who are in need of some focused support and guidance. It is a rewarding and exciting opportunity for someone who has a desire to make a difference in childrens lives and education.

  • Your role will include:
    Successfully engaging students with their learning
    Establishing constructive relationships with students
    Following the positive behaviour plans for each individual child
    Maintain a positive working environment
    Develop a clear understanding of the specific needs and incorporating this into your teaching style
    Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and deescalating the situation to best of your ability
    Assist the school in communicating with parent and carers using appropriate approach

  • Key skills and experience needed:
    Experience as a HLTA or Unqualified teacher essential
    Qualification in construction
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    Commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
    Experience working with vulnerable/ atrisk children or young adults
    The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
    Able to work with learners with various learning difficulties
    Flexibility in approach to educating and supporting children
    Team teach trained desired but not essential as training will be provided during the summer holidays l
