Reporting to the Underwriting Team Manager, the Trading Underwriter will be responsible for the pricing, growth and ultimate profitability of new and renewing business. All tasks undertaken will be within the authority limits. Will consider consumers in all aspects of all activities undertaken to ensure that they are treated fairly, and that products and services offered are appropriate for their needs and offer value for money.
Will ensure schemes are rated according to criteria, which should produce a satisfactory underwriting profit. Through own analysis and working with the actuarial team, will have an up to date and ongoing overview of the performance of all accounts within own area of responsibility. To specify and supervise production of necessary MI, reporting and information to enable the management of the Account, working in conjunction with the Business Development Managers. To develop and maintain good working relationships with external insurers and other external suppliers.
To innovatively review and analyse potential new business and existing schemes. Assist with the management of the relationships with business producers within the above areas, utilising the auditing and claims resources available within the business. Will have a working knowledge of the underwriting and claims area of the company. Ensuring the company and agents comply with relevant Regulatory bodies, including meeting any training needs of the Sales Agents to ensure compliance, including responsibility for implementing FCA requirements and recommendations. Upkeep of the insurance training manuals relating to company products. To develop colleagues to improve immediate performance and realise future potential. To report to management, impact on profitability and performance of any 'large losses'.
Will have significant underwriting, pricing and actuarial experience with a personal lines bias. People management skills with an ability to partner with a strong leadership team. Analytical skills, budget planning and financial management. Able to demonstrate commercial awareness. Significant experience in a technical position. Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills. Attention to detail and the ability to undertake repetitive work. Experience of managing successful client relationships. Developing self and others.
