Census Coverage Survey - Area Manager
37 hours per week
London based, to cover rehearsal area
We???re getting ready to count on you.
Have a positive impact on your local community, meet some brilliant people and learn new skills. As an area operations manager within the 2019 census rehearsal team, you???ll enjoy a unique experience ??? and be part of making history.
The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives us the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. It aims to count everyone and will help to decide how services are planned and funded in your community. There???s no other survey that gives as much detail about us and our society.
To prepare for the next census in 2021, we???re holding a census rehearsal in Autumn 2019. This is a great opportunity to help us with this exercise and comes with flexible working hours, a role in your local community and the chance to meet all kinds of people. Best of all, you???ll be supporting the field force to get responses from households that will help make key decisions about your area. So, you???ll be making a lasting impact whilst having a fascinating experience.
After the main census is carried out, we then conduct the census coverage survey (ccs). This helps us assess how well households have been counted in the census. It???s done by listing the properties in a certain area and interviewing the residents. You???ll be in charge of co-ordinating the ccs operation in your area.
You???ll manage a team of field staff, which includes up to 4 team managers who will each manage around 14 interviewers. Together, you???ll get the maximum number of people to participate in the ccs operation. With great team management and the help of the area operations support team, you???ll see that everything happens as planned. You???ll then report results to the regional management team (rmt). It???s important that you stay in close contact with the rmt, as they???ll be your link to the wider ccs HQ. You???ll also need to liaise with a range of local contacts who could include local authority staff and the police.
As an experienced strategic manager, you???ve led a remote workforce before. Highly organised, you can meet deadlines, monitor progress and analyse data to produce reports and updates. You???ll therefore be IT literate with access to the internet. And crucially, you have the communications skills to deal with all kinds of people and keep everything running smoothly.
This role comes with the following essential requirements. You should be:
- Be available from 22 October 2019 until 19 December 2019
- Prepared to undertake training if necessary
- Able to travel throughout your area
- Able to use a mobile phone and have access to the internet
- Able to use your home as an office and store confidential materials securely
- Able to work flexible hours (Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 8.30pm, and Sundays and Bank Holidays, between 10am and 4pm)
