Detainee Custody Officer Drivers

Location: Heathrow Vehicle Base

37.5 contracted hours a week plus overtime opportunities.

£22,776 per annum + overtime opportunities

We are recruiting Detainee Custody Officersfor Heathrow Vehicle Base and the wider area to join our growing nationwide team.

We are looking for motivated, caring people with great interpersonal skills to join our teams as Detainee Custody Officer Drivers, whose dedicated role will be to escort and transport detainees to various locations around the UK. As a Detainee Custody Officer Driver, you will be out and about from the start your shift moving and escorting immigration detainees.

To become a Care & Custody DCO you will have excellent communication and people skills. Your ability to work well in a team, with a non-judgemental approach will help you to deliver this challenging but rewarding role with empathy, dignity and professionalism.

You will be able to successfully de-escalate challenging situations and enjoy being mobile during your working day, spending time with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Ideal candidates for the role will be quietly confident with the ability to respond calmly under pressure.

People with previous experience as bus or taxi driver, driving instructor or face to face customer service roles such as care & support workers, mental health workers & those with experience of dealing with learning disabilities, Alzheimer ,challenging behaviour, or those with social care backgrounds would fit well into this role, as would those from pub/bar hospitality back grounds, traffic or debt enforcement officers, police, fire or ambulance services, armed forces leavers or those with previous experience of working in security, prison, immigration or custodial environments such as security, prison or custody officers.

Your role as a ‘DCO’ will require you to maintain high standards of security and safety whilst promoting the welfare and decency of detainees in your care.

Working a rolling shift pattern that covers 24 hours, 365 days per year, you will be contracted to work day and night shifts, long days and short days with a variety of start and finish times, early, midday and late starts and with possible overtime opportunities. Shifts will also include weekend and bank holidays.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • Specific Driving requirements are attached to this role and will be issued via a compliance link during application.

  • Have a full UK manual driving license with at least 12 months post qualifying experience.

  • Have fewer than 7 points on your UK Driving License.

  • Have not received a driving ban within the previous 5 years.

  • Must not be red/green colour blind.

  • Applicants must be a UK citizen, Citizen of the Commonwealth with their own indefinite leave to remain ( not through marriage), or EEA citizen.

  • Have a valid and in date passport, with no restrictions on their stay in the UK.

  • Must have continuously resided in the UK for the previous 5 years.

  • Must not have spent more than 3 months at any one time overseas during the previous 5 years.

  • Must not be currently bankrupt.

  • The position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act; Successful candidates will be required to undergo Enhanced DBS and vetting to a level of Counter Terrorist Checked (CTC).

Those progressing will be invited to attend a half day assessment centre at Heathrow with capability assessments, interview and vetting screening.

Successful candidates will then be invited to complete a 6 week initial training course (ITC) followed by a 6 month probationary period and ongoing professional development.
