My client is an extremely well-established non-food FMCG provider of a wide range of equipment distributing through hundreds of retail stores and subsidiaries across the UK and Europe. We are delighted to support in their search for an experienced H&S Operations Manager, essentially a SHEQ manager, at their site near Middleton to manage day to day safety operations within their large distribution centre.

You will be playing a key role in the leadership and development of all SHEQ initiatives across a high volume, 24-hour operation ensuring all teams are working in line with all legislative compliance in order to provide a first class service within a safe environment.

This is predominantly a Monday-Friday, however flexibility is required for some occasional weekend cover.

Key Responsibilities:

* Ensure the DC is operating within compliance and Health & Safety requirements at all times

* Lead the site in all aspects of compliance and audits

* Actively promote the SHEQ strategy to drive a tangible improvement in safety performance and culture.

* Regular risk assessments and route cause analysis with all investigations

* Take ownership & responsibility for the environment

* Provide leadership & development of H&S processes across all shifts

* Inspire & coach all teams to encourage adherence to policies

* Provide ideas for continuous improvement of all processes & procedures

* Identify training needs and recommend additional training/coaching as relevant

* Implementation and control of MHE training initiatives

* Maintaining accident database, including monitoring & reporting near misses

* Identify “potential risks” across the DC and formulate appropriate action plans to mitigate accidents

* Collaborate with all departments & leadership teams, building relationships to ensure a safe and efficient operation at all times

* Be an overall key player in the delivery of exceptional service

Key Skills:

* Experience in a similar SHEQ management role within a large distribution centre

* Relevant IOSH / NEBOSH qualifications

* Up to date knowledge of H&S practices

* Have a continuous improvement mind-set

* Excellent communication, leadership and people development skills

* Ability to work under pressure and flexible in their approach
