Salary:**£5, per annum**

(12 hours per week, 36 weeks per year)

We currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our student services department as an English & Maths Learning Assistant to support students (identified as needing additional learning support) to improve their English, Maths and Study Skills across the college in classrooms, workshops and one-to-one situations. The post may include working with both HE and FE students.

Responsibilities of our**English & Maths Learning Assistant:**

  • Using appropriate support strategies for working with groups or individuals to maximise learning opportunities and to engage and motivate students

  • Addressing English/maths/study skills needs of the students to enable them to cope with the demands of their course

  • Contributing fully to membership of the course teams, attending staff meetings where possible and liaising with staff re individual student’s progress and support needs

  • Contributing to maintenance of records of individual student progress where appropriate

  • Establishing and maintain additional support records for individual students

  • Administering initial educational assessments and screening tests if required

  • Maintaining records of student attendance for support, advise relevant tutors on absences, assist in following up absences

  • Assisting students in the use of reference materials, resources and computer aided learning materials

  • Enhancing existing resources and assist in collating and preparing new resources

  • Contributing, with guidance from academic staff, to the resources available for student use in skills workshops or study hubs

  • Assisting in the production of appropriate statistical records and reports, as required

What we’re looking for in our**English & Maths Learning Assistant:**

  • Level 2 in Maths and English

  • Evidence of ICT competence

  • Qualification in Supporting Students or a willingness to work towards

  • High standard of written and spoken English

  • Excellent administrative and record keeping skills

  • Ability to provide English/maths/study skills support

  • Awareness of initial assessment procedures

  • The ability to support students on a range of mainstream courses

  • The ability to work across the age and ability range in classroom, workshop and one to one situation

  • Use own initiative to maximise learning and to engage learners

  • Awareness of the needs of the dyslexic student in the classroom

  • Must accept and actively support the Group’s agreed values
