Job Introduction Cricket is the nation’s favourite summer sport. England men’s dramatic victory in this year’s Cricket World Cup (and the women’s in 2018) thrust the game into the national spotlight. The current Ashes series’ continues to stoke the interest of cricket fans across the country.

From May 2020 the BBC will build on its long-standing radio and digital coverage of the sport, by becoming the free-to-air TV home of English Cricket. The package of rights acquired by the BBC will allow us to offer the audience comprehensive coverage including Live radio commentary of all International and Domestic cricket competitions, bespoke radio programmes and podcasts; digital clips and highlights of all International matches; plus BBC TV will broadcast almost 80 hours of cricket each summer; including highlights of all home Test matches and one day internationals, live coverage of England T20 matches, live women’s cricket and the ground-breaking new competition called The Hundred.

The BBC has three simple objectives for its cross-platform coverage of the sport:

To maximise the reach and impact of cricket To take the sport to new audiences To encourage more people to pick up a bat and ball With a stated ambition to maximise reach and take the sport to a new audience, we are looking to appoint a Diversity Lead who will work across all of our output and help deliver content that will resonate with and engage and reflect the diverse communities across the country; with a focus on (but not limited to) South Asian communities and their long standing relationship with cricket in the UK.

In particular the Producer will help create content that will showcase the stories and characters from within the world of cricket.

Role Responsibility The Producer will report to The Cricket Lead Executive and be a key part of the BBC Sport Cricket Hub.

They will work closely with Editorial leads on all platforms to develop content that will be published across our comprehensive cricket coverage.

The Producer will also create digital facing content that will promote podcasts and programmes that are targeted at a diverse audience, such as The Doosra.

Working with the ECB and the BBC’s Participation Producer look to promote the uptake of cricket in all communities

This role will also have an outreach remit and time will be spent with audience engagement to better understand the needs and feedback of a diverse audience. This data will be fed back to production teams on a regular basis.

Are you the right candidate? You should have a real passion, knowledge and understanding of cricket.

You should have a demonstrable experience of creating content for a diverse audience that has made an impact.

You should have a passion for audience engagement in particular to encourage participation in Cricket through consuming our content and by taking part

You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the diverse communities within the UK and be able to pitch content ideas that will sit with our Live and Digital output. These groups will include South Asian and Caribbean communities, people with disabilities and other underserved audiences.

You will have experience of producing digital and social media content.

You should have the ambition to create and drive the content and tone of our programmes that equally delight and deliver something new to the passionate cricket fan but also be accessible and able to attract a new audience to our cricket coverage.

You will have experience of dealing with high-profile presenters and pundits.

You will be adaptable and flexible and able to work across the BBC Sport portfolio
